Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our practice and services
What types of procedures does the practice offer?
Dr. Gamarra offers robotic, laparoscopic, and open surgical procedures along with specialized wound care. Services include hernia repair, gallbladder removal, colon and ostomy surgery, anorectal surgery, breast surgery, skin procedures, and hyperbaric oxygenation. The approach is chosen to fit your condition and goals. During a consultation you can review which option makes the most sense for you.
What is robotic surgery?
Robotic surgery is a minimally invasive technique in which the surgeon controls precise instruments through small incisions while viewing a magnified image. The surgeon remains in control of every step of the procedure. Compared with open surgery, minimally invasive methods are often associated with smaller incisions and a smoother recovery. Whether it is appropriate depends on your condition, your history, and the procedure needed.
Which hernias can be repaired robotically?
The practice performs robotic repair of bilateral inguinal hernias and of ventral or incisional hernias with mesh. Larger or recurrent defects may call for open ventral hernia repair or open bilateral component separation. The right approach depends on the size and location of the hernia and on any prior surgeries. Dr. Gamarra will explain the options and reasoning before you decide.
What is an intra-operative cholangiogram?
An intra-operative cholangiogram is an imaging study performed during gallbladder removal. It uses contrast to outline the bile ducts so the surgeon can check for stones or other problems. This helps evaluate the bile ducts while the operation is underway. Dr. Gamarra can explain whether it is expected in your case.
Do you treat hemorrhoids and anal fistulas?
Yes. The practice offers hemorrhoidectomy and ano-rectal fistulectomy for persistent symptoms. Many people try conservative measures first, and surgery is considered when symptoms continue or complications develop. Care focuses on relief and careful follow up. A consultation is the best way to discuss whether a procedure is right for you.
What wound care services are available?
Wound care includes management of hidradenitis suppurativa, chronic pilonidal cysts, keloids, and complex wounds. Complex wounds may be treated using flaps and skin grafts. Excision of skin lesions is offered in the office or in the operating room, depending on the situation. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy may also be used as part of a broader wound care plan.
What is hyperbaric oxygen therapy?
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves breathing oxygen in a pressurized environment, which can support healing of complex wounds. It is not a stand-alone cure and is used alongside other wound care measures. Whether it suits you depends on the type of wound and your overall health. Dr. Gamarra can discuss how it would fit into your plan.
Do you offer breast surgery?
Yes, the practice provides surgical care for breast conditions that require operative treatment. Your options are explained clearly before any decision is made. You are encouraged to ask questions and take the time you need. Call the office to arrange a consultation to discuss your concerns.

Is the practice accepting new patients?
Availability for new patients is best confirmed directly with the office. Please call (661) 579-6088 or send an inquiry through the contact page. The team can tell you about scheduling and next steps. Having your concerns and relevant history ready will help the conversation.
What insurance plans do you accept?
Insurance participation varies and is best confirmed with the office before your visit. Please call (661) 579-6088 and have your insurance information available. The team can explain what to check with your plan. You can also visit our insurance page for general guidance.
What does a consultation involve?
At your consultation you will meet Dr. Gamarra to review your history and symptoms. Together you will discuss surgical and non-surgical options, and you will have time to ask questions. If a procedure is appropriate, a care plan is built around your needs. Follow up care supports your recovery afterward.
What should I bring to my first visit?
Bring a photo ID, your insurance card, and a list of your current medications and allergies. If you have imaging, lab results, or records from other providers related to your concern, bring those too. Note when your symptoms started and what makes them better or worse. This helps make the visit as productive as possible.
Do I need a referral?
Requirements for referrals can depend on your insurance plan and your situation. Some plans ask for a referral from a primary care provider, while others do not. Please call the office at (661) 579-6088 to ask what applies to you. The team can help you understand what to arrange before your visit.
Should I stop taking my medications before surgery?
Never stop or change a medication on your own. Some medicines, such as blood thinners, may need to be adjusted before a procedure, while others should be continued. Dr. Gamarra will review your full medication list, including supplements, and give specific instructions. Bring an up-to-date list to your consultation.
What is recovery like after surgery?
Recovery varies with the procedure, the approach used, and your overall health. Minimally invasive techniques aim to support a smoother recovery, but every patient heals differently. You will receive instructions about activity, wound care, and warning signs to watch for. Follow up visits are part of the care plan.
Do you speak Spanish?
Yes. Hablamos Espanol, and the practice aims to make sure you understand your diagnosis and options. Clear communication is an important part of making decisions about your care. Let the office know your language preference when you call. You are welcome to ask questions at any point.
What are your fees and cancellation policies?
